Heading Back to New Orleans with Mixed Feelings

Hey all. My plan for today was to announce I am heading back to New Orleans for the Battle of New Orleans commemoration next week. Though I still plan to go, that exciting announcement now comes with mixed feelings considering the attack that occurred in the city early this morning. The hotel I booked is only a half mile away from where the attack took place. There isn’t a whole lot I can say except it really sucks.

Anyway, the big thing I am doing is revisiting Chalmette Battlefield of course. There are activities to commemorate the 210th anniversary of the battle. It doesn’t seem like there is a whole lot of fuss for this, but that is of little consequence to me. I am taking the opportunity to ask the park rangers a range of park questions (see what I did there?). I had the opportunity before but was unprepared. Shame on me. Redemption time. Plus, I really liked just being there and am excited to be there again.

Besides revisiting Chalmette, I am taking another go at the National World War II Museum. I hope to meet with someone on the communications team when I get there to discuss opportunities for content. Pretty exciting stuff! Also, there are some new exhibits and last time I didn’t make it all the way through.

Basically, I plan to make good on my post When I Go Back to New Orleans. Jazz will be heard. Beignets will be eaten. While you wait for the next post, make sure to brush up on all things history in New Orleans. Take care.
